Salote grew up in Fiji and when she was 8, her 18-year-old neighbor molested her. “The touching and kissing eventually led to intercourse,” Salote said. “By the time I was in Class Three, I was having sex regularly. After that there was even a second neighbor who raped and abused me. He kept coming after me for several years.”
After being abandoned by her father, Salote was prostituted by her aunt. A friend's mother told her about Homes of Hope. “I was so excited,” she said. “Here was a chance to start once over again. I remember crying out to God in my desperate need. I remember praying and asking for a safe place for my son and me. As soon as I came to this place, I realized that things were different. I loved talking to everybody. They are so open and nice. I can even see positive changes in my son's behavior.”
